We’ve shown you why caring for your pet’s teeth is important.
We’ve even shown you how to brush your pet’s teeth.
You’ve got your toothbrush in hand, now what?
You need pet toothpaste!
We recommend pet toothpaste, because it helps your pet keep their teeth clean and gums healthy. Brushing your pet’s teeth along with regular cleanings helps to prevent the periodontal disease that affects 85% of dogs and cats. Periodontal disease causes pain, bad breath and tooth loss. Lack of dental cleaning in pets leads to chronic oral infections that spread harmful bacteria to other parts of the body, including the lungs, heart, liver and kidneys. Most of these dental diseases are preventable with regular dental care at home.
Can’t I just use my own toothpaste?
Unfortunately, the answer is no. Pet toothpaste is specially formulated without sodium lauryl sulphate, the ingredient that makes human toothpaste foam, because our pets don’t spit after we brush their teeth. Swallowing the foam may upset their stomachs. While not poisonous, human toothpaste contains fluorides and shouldn’t be swallowed.
Not to mention that pet toothpaste comes in flavors your pet will actually like!
Other Things You Can Do
Chew toys can also play an important role in your home dental care plan. They help massage your pet’s gums and keep their teeth clean. Gnawing on a chew toy can help floss your pet’s teeth, massaging gums and scraping away soft tartar. While chew toys don’t replace the need to brush your pet’s teeth, they add dental benefits while also providing a fun activity for your dog, and in some cases, your cat.
